Marlene Tschida Bryan graduated from William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1982. She was admitted to practice in Minnesota in 1982, Virginia in 1989 and Texas in 1990.
After six years in insurance defense practice with Gislason, Martin and Varpness in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she became an Air Force spouse and began a series of jobs and bar admissions while moving around the country with her family. In Northern Virginia she worked for the Office of Staff Judge Advocate at Fort Belvoir. In San Antonio, Texas she joined the firm of Wright and Greenhill as a trial lawyer in the insurance defense section, followed two years later by a move to North Carolina.
She received her first training as a mediator while living in North Carolina. After a two year stay in Goldsboro, North Carolina doing environmental law litigation, she returned to San Antonio to open her own practice, in which she did mediation and insurance defense litigation, including defense of an engineering firm in a complex environmental law/construction case related to the Alamodome. After nearly four years in Germany, Bryan returned to Virginia in 2000 where she joined the firm of Waddell and Barnes in Newport News.
She became a partner at Mason, Mason, Walker & Hedrick on July 1, 2004. In addition to extensive experience as a trial lawyer, Bryan is also a mediator with experience in Virginia and Texas. She has been a speaker at various CLE and claims association events.
She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Virginia, Texas and Minnesota State Bars, the Virginia and Newport News Bar Associations, the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, the Defense Research Institute, and the Virginia Mediation Network.
